Ghost Hunts

Walton Hall was built between 1836 and 1838. At the time of the build, there was a previous hall on the grounds. However, this previous hall lay to the north east of the current building, not on the exact site. The previous hall has long since been demolished.

The current hall existed as a family home for a number of years until 1869, when the new owners extended the property and added offices.

In 1941, Warrington Corporation bought the hall and it subsequently opened to the public in 1945. In 1990, most of the additions made in 1969 were demolished. The tower which exists today is all that remains of those later additions.

The hall was used for the filming of the BBC drama ‘The Zoo’ depicting the creation and growth of Cheshire Zoo.

There are several spirits said to haunt Walton Hall.

An angry male presence haunts the upper floor. He tries to scare people away, often by making feel as though they are choking or being strangled.

A young girl who allegedly died in the house in the 1800s is often seen. She reportedly holds they hands of visitors to the house, and enforces strong feelings of sadness on people.

Another spirit experienced in the house is that of previous resident Lady Daresbury. People report seeing her on the stairs, feeling someone unseen walk past them on the stairs and even experiencing the feeling of being pushed on the stairs!

Walton Hall is the ultimate haunted house. Are you brave enough to investigate?
