Ghost Hunts

Long before the Kent Life Museum existed, back in the 1100s, Boxley Abbey occupied the land!

In 1966, Maidstone Borough Council was gifted with the Cobtree Manor Estate. On this estate was the derelict Sandling Farm.

Nearly 20 years later, in 1884, the decision was made to restore the farm and convert it into a museum. The rural life museum, now known as Kent Life Museum, opened in 1985 and continues to thrive to this day.

You can find a fantastic collection of buildings at the museum, some Grade listed, which have been dismantled in other areas of the country and rebuilt on the museum site. And with these building came the ghosts!

Many of the buildings seem to come with their own haunting stories. Take Petts Farmhouse for example. A small wooden doll mysteriously appeared on the floor inside the house. She’d had her arms, legs and hair cut away and had some kind of noose wrapped around her neck!

Many, many apparitions have been seen around the farm and its buildings. A World War II nurse, monks, a young girl, a mysterious face at a window, a german fighter pilot, and woman holding a baby, and a couple known as ‘The Strangers’ to name but a few!
