Ghost Hunts

Haden Hill Old Hall was originally built in the late 1600s. It is misleadingly referred to as ‘Tudor Hall’ but is nothing of the sort.

It has been rebuilt and adapted a lot over the last 400 years. The building we see today is believed to be a copy of the original building, and may possibly contain original materials.

Mr Haden-Best inherited the hall in 1870. He longer wished to live in the hall and built the Victorian Haden Hill House. His plans were to demolish Haden Hill Old Hall to make room for an extension to the house. Luckily, this plan never saw fruition.

The Hall played its part during World War II. Children were evacuated to the hall, and the tunnels below the hall were used as air raid shelters.

A story of forbidden love leads to two of the hall’s well known ghosts. Eleanor and a young monk were in love. But when the romance was discovered, they tried to flee using the tunnels under the hall. Tales state that the monk was buried alive in the walls of a passage under the hall. Scratching and moaning can be heard which is believed to be from the monk. Eleanor is seen wandering the hall and grounds searching for her lost love eternally.

There are other spirits said to haunt the hall and much activity is experienced. Are you ready to explore?
