Guys Cliffe house was built in 1751 but the land was inhabited as far back as Saxon times!
There is a legend of a man known as ‘Guy of Warwick’ who lived as a hermit in the cave on the grounds, which is now referred to as ‘Guys Cave’. It is believed that this is the reason a chantry was later built on the site.
The house itself, now in ruin, has had many uses over the years. During World War I it was used as a hospital, like many other large country houses. During World War II, it schooled evacuated children.
Extensive fire damage was the result of fire the grew out of control during filming of ‘The Adventures of Shirlock Holmes’ in 1992.
The Chapel is still standing and used to this day by the Freemasons.
Poltergeist activity is strong in both the house and the surrounding grounds.
Dragging sounds are heard and strange lights seen. Mists and dark shadow figures are also seen lurking and unexplainable sounds heard.
Guys Cliffe House has a very dark and foreboding atmosphere. Guests are often left terrified and refuse to return. Are you brave enough to take it on?
