Ghost Hunts

HISTORY

Dover Castle is referred to as the ‘Key of England’ and has played an important part defending the United Kingdom for over 900 years. It is situated on the shortest crossing between England and Europe, and has seen much activity during that time.

The current castle was built in the 1180s by King Henry II, but there is a strong likelihood that an Iron Age fort existed here a long time before. The first form of a castle was implemented by William The Conqueror in 1066 after his victory at the Battle of Hastings. From there on in, it was remodelled, strengthened and extended into the castle that we see today.

The castle experienced two sieges in the 13th Century where many lives would have been lost. Dover Castle also played a fundamental part of both world wars given its significant positioning.

HAUNTINGS

The tales of hauntings at Dover Castle are endless and varied. Full bodied apparitions are often seen, as well as partial apparitions. One witness reported seeing a pair of ghostly feet walking up the stairs!

Soldiers have been sighted and I’ve personally seen an incredible photo of a phantom soldier taken in one of the tunnels!

A drummer boy is said to haunt and his drum can be heard beating eerily into the night. He was allegedly murdered and decapitated by thieves who wanted to money he was carrying whilst on an errand.

I could continue, but I’d be here all day! Maybe you should experience Dover Castle for yourself!
