Ghost Hunts

HISTORY

Derby Gaol as an attraction covers two locations. The first is the old gaol on Friars Gate which operated from 1756 to 1846. Many prisoners were held here over those years, and many lost their lives here. Executions took place on the front steps of the building, by hanging and beheading.

The second location is the site of Vernon Street Prison, which was the new county gaol. This prison operated from 1843 to 1919, and from 10 years after that as a military prison. After this time, it was demolished. The grand frontage of the prison can still be seen, and the hanging room can still be investigated.

HAUNTINGS

Shadows are seen both at night and in the middle of the afternoon! Grey mists in the form of a human have also been seen gliding around the cells.

Poltergeist activity is experienced here and investigation equipment is regularly affected. Strange moans and groans have also been heard.

Are you brave enough to investigate the ominous Derby Gaol?
