Ghost Hunts

HISTORY

The Black Horse lies in the heart of the village of Pluckley in Kent. The village has the reputation of being the most haunted village in the country, with no less than 12 ghosts.

The village pub only adds to the reputation. It began life in the 1470s as a farmhouse. The black horse was the family emblem of the Dering family that lived in the farmhouse. It also spent some time as a Bailiff’s house.

The building has operated as a pub for hundreds of years now. It’s been made famous, not only for its ghosts, but also for its regular appearance as the village inn on the T.V. series ‘The Darling Buds Of May’.

HAUNTINGS

Poltergeist activity is very strong at the Black Horse. There is said to be a male spirit responsible for this, and he often moves things around the bar. Object displacement is something that happens frequently too. Items vanish, only to appear in a different place or several days later. There is one story that a land-lady put down her coat and bag and they vanished. Two years later, they appeared back in the same place she had left them!

Another poltergeist said to be haunting the inn is that of a woman called Jessie Brooks. She apparently died in the inn, and her presence is still making itself known. Staff and customers have frequently reported sensing the spirit of a small child around the pub also.

Are you ready to explore this ancient building and try to discover who still resides in the Black Horse inn?
