Beaumaris Gaol was built in 1829 and only spent 49 years of its life as a prison. Only two men were unfortunate to meet their end by hanging at the prison. It closed in 1878 and continued for the next nearly 80 years as a police station.
Following the closure of the police station in the 1950s, the building was then used as a children’s clinic for twenty years. I couldn’t think of a creepier place to take a poorly child!
Luckily, the building has been a museum since 1974, and you can now explore it all for yourself!
It seems that jail life continues in the spirit world. Full bodied apparitions and dark shadows are seen.
The sound of jangling keys is often heard and heavy doors open and close on their own. A spirit sometimes seen is believed to be a previous jailer.
Visitors report feeling faint and having their hair pulled by unseen hands. It seems as though the jailer is not the only spirit haunting the gaol. Who will you encounter during your night at Beaumaris Gaol?
